Abstract
This paper discusses the terms used in the Qur'an and the Hadith related to youth. Youth problems are interesting to be studied because they have an important role in building the society, country, and civilization. It is very clear that the role of youth is expected for the current generation and future generations. This paper does not address the problem of youth in general, but only focuses on the terms associated with them. In the Qur’an, there are two words used, namely the fata and fityah, either in the singular form or plural. Both of these words are addressed to the good figures such as Abraham, disciples of Moses, the inhabitants of the cave (Ashab al-kahfi), and the Prophet Joseph. While the words of youth used in the hadith are syāb and shabab. The context of the use of these two words is different, as well as in the study of the afterlife, like the youth who would be sheltered on the day of the hereafter. In terms of sanad and matan of hadith criticism, it is found that there was a problematic hadith relating to marriage. Marriage issue is not related to halal-haram but because it comes from the tradition of the Prophet then it needs to be investigated. Sanad and matan of hadith criticism are indeed urgent matters in the study of hadith, either from the past or present.
