"A bioética nos países de língua portuguesa iniciou-se na década de oitenta do século passado, especificamente em Portugal, com o pioneirismo de quatro ícones da bioética portuguesa: Dr. Jorge Biscaia, Daniel Serrão, Walter Oswald e o Padre Luís Archer. Disseminou-se rapidamente por Coimbra, Porto e Lisboa, estabelecendo critérios de formação científica e elaboração de pareceres e diretrizes na área da saúde com forte embasamento bioético" ["Bioethics in Portuguese-speaking countries started in the eighties of the last century, specifically in Portugal, with the pioneering of four icons of the Portuguese bioethics: Dr. Jorge Biscay, Daniel Serrao, Walter Oswald and Father Luis Archer.
