Abstract
"Este artigo analisa os símbolos proféticos de Apocalipse 17 com o objetivo de explorar as relações entre a besta escarlate, a primeira besta de Apocalipse 13 e o dragão de Apocalipse 12. O estudo é feito à luz do contexto das sete pragas e do paralelo construído entre o clímax escatológico provido por Apocalipse 13 e 16-17, paralelo este usado como base para se sugerir uma relação entre a besta semelhante a leopardo e a meretriz, e entre a besta de dois chifres e a besta escarlate e seu oitavo rei. Em seu contexto imediato, o texto de Apocalipse 17 é considerado como uma espécie de juízo de investigação seguido da execução de sentença sobre a meretriz (Ap 18). O oitavo rei é distinguido do poder religioso e relacionado com os poderes políticos e militares" ["This article analyzes the prophetic symbols of Revelation 17 aiming to explore the relationships between the scarlet beast, the first beast of Revelation 13 and the dragon of Revelation 12. The study is done against the background the seven plagues and the parallel constructed between the eschatological climax provided by Revelation 13 and 16-17, this parallel used as the basis to suggest a relationship between the leopard beast and the harlot, and between the beast with two horns and the scarlet beast and his eighth.
