Abstract
Abstract in English: China’s reforms and opening up have changed its social and economic structure. Along with this change has come the need for a new system of ethical norms that fits the newly emergent economic relations. This system, however, cannot start from scratch. Integrity (cheng xin), which is the most basic traditional ethical norm closely related to modern economic relations, has been particularly affected. As a “less developed industrialized country”, China is in the process of transforming its traditional integrity into a modern form. Is it possible for China to borrow something from the “advanced industrialized world” that sees its modern integrity heading for post-modernity? This paper explores the possibility and argues that, in the mainly devoted to the modern transformation of traditional integrity; we should overcome the limitations of rule-oriented integrity, protect and encourage morality-based and identity-based integrity, and at the same time, pay attention on the western post-modern trend.
