Abstract
This article attempts to discuss the Appropriation theory of Paul Ricouer and its relevancy to Islamic studies. Philosopher Paul Ricouer is considered in the midline fusion of two great philosophical traditions, namely phenomenology Germans and French structuralism. Appropriation theory is a continuation of hermeneutic theory of Ricouer. This paper will explore the text Appropriation theory, where the theory is projected to gain an understanding of a text that is in accordance with the present state and no longer fixated with preceding meanings and values become normativity in everyday life, especially in the field of Islamic studies.
