性伦理的可能性存在于性生活的正当性中，但性生活的正当性并不等于性道德。 性生活的目的就其主要方面可以是为着婚姻（爱情）、生育（生存）、快乐（生理），这也是性 行为的主要功能。然而，以这样的目的或功能而来的性生活都不能等同于性道德。对性行为的道 德评价至少要考虑到它的实质要件（自然法则）和形式要件（社会法则）。性生活是一种隐匿 性、私人性、相对性、自抑性的行为。这些特点决定着只存在反道德的性生活和非道德（常态） 性生活，而不存在应当性（道德）的性生活。
