Abstract
This paper attempts to discuss about Islam in Java, which has distinctive color that differentiates it from other areas of diversity patterns indicate a process of adaptation to the universality of Islam in the local culture. The adaptation process does not diminish the authenticity of Islam, but rather adds to the wealth of commentary of religion. The style of adaptive and compromise the indigenization of Islam in Java is proof that Islam is elective towards the various cultural communities. The style has been delivering the emergence of Islamic identity for the Java community then has the impact of changes in the transformation in the Javanese.
