文章首先探讨了经济体制改革与和谐社会的关系，从经济体制改革的要求来理解和谐社会的提出。然后从伦理学角度，探讨诚信友爱作为目标价值对和谐社会道德建设及其实践的重要意义。作者认为，诚信友爱作为和谐社会构建所要达到的道德目标，将促使和谐社会道德建设朝着这一目标而努力，从而将影响现有道德规范体系的变化。
