Abstract
This article discusses the historical background of Qira’ah Sab’ah concept. The author shows that the concept of Qira’ah Sab’ah does not mean seven ways to read Koran which are agreed by the scholars as understood by the Muslims today. As a result, the term ‘Sab'ah’ as the basis of this matter has many meanings, not just seven. In this regard, understanding the formation of qirā‘ah history in its present form becomes important, especially because so rich treasures that the qirā‘ah possesses that appeared during the codification of official qirā'ah. The standardization of this qirâ'ah, on the one hand, gives Muslims a lot ease in reading the Koran; on the other hand, it buries the treasures of the qirā'ah science very dynamic during qirā'ah sab'ah codification.
