Abstract
"O objetivo desse estudo é analisar a questão da privacidade e da vigilância, sob o ponto de vista ético, a partir das correntes utilitarista, absolutista e relativista. Para tanto, tomaremos como base a reportagem de Marques (2001) sobre as câmeras de vigilância na cidade de Nova York. A reportagem trata da existência de câmeras, muitas delas escondidas, particulares e públicas que estão sendo utilizadas na vigilância da cidade. As formas de controle social da atualidade (internet, circuitos de vigilância por TV, câmeras escondidas) trazem à tona o tema do panoptismo. O panóptico tornou-se, a partir da análise de Michel Foucault (1979, 1987), um paradigma, uma forma de controle baseada na visibilidade constante, cada vez mais presente em nossos dias. Daí, a importância de incluí-lo nessa discussão.
