Abstract
"A investigação biomédica envolvendo seres humanos, e especificamente os ensaios clínicos, constitui uma das temáticas originárias da bioética e indubitavelmente a mais decisiva do seu surgimento, além de ser também aquela que determinou a elaboração das primeiras normas ético-jurídicas – Código de Nuremberga, em 1947, e o Belmont Report, em 1978 –, sendo ainda o único domínio de acção em que a reflexão ética ganhou uma efectiva preponderância na medida em que a sua apreciação se tornou vinculativa no que se refere à autorização para a realização dos ensaios clínicos" ["Biomedical research involving human subjects, and specifically clinical trials, is one of the thematic originating in bioethics and undoubtedly the most decisive from its inception, and it is also one that determined the development of the first ethical and legal standards - Nuremberg Code in 1947, and the Belmont Report, in 1978 - still the only field of action in which the reflection ethics gained an effective dominance as wherein the assessing became binding as regards the authorization to carry out clinical trials"]
