Abstract
The people of Africa are materially poor. Africa’s poverty problems are often linked to its post independence poor leadership and corruption. That, however, may be just the visible part of other bigger underlying problems. In order to address and solve the problems of corruption in Africa it is important to understand their origins. The combination of disease, harsh environment, history and poverty has weakened the social, political, economic and moral fabric of Africa. This paper is an effort to look at the factors that form the roots of corruption in Africa and the way forward to reduce poverty and corruption in the continent.
