Abstract
"Un área de la clínica humana de gran interés biomédico es la del trasplante de órganos pues cada vez son más los pacientes que sufren un proceso degenerativo de un órgano concreto que obliga a sustituirlo. El principal problema que se plantea en este campo terapéutico es la escasez de órganos para ser trasplantados, pues a pesar de políticas muy activas para fomentar la donación de órganos, son muchos los pacientes que tienen que esperar largos periodos de tiempo, con el agravamiento que ello puede suponer para su enfermedad, incluso hay bastantes que no consiguen el órgano deseado y fallecen sin haber sido trasplantados. Como botón de muestra de ello puede ser de interés recordar que el pasado 14 de abril de 2014 había en Estados Unidos 122.000 pacientes esperando un órgano para serles trasplantado, pero menos de 30.000 lo consiguieron ese año Por lo que, hay que buscar soluciones alternativas para este grave problema.
