Abstract
"O aborto é um dos temas de medicina mais sensíveis sob o ponto de vista ético e moral. Ainterrupção voluntária de gravidez (ivg) por opção da mulher constitui um direito como ser humano, apesar de originar, quase sempre, ampla discussão social e política. As Nações Unidas reconhecem plenos direitos às mulheres e incentivam a necessidade de promover a redução da morbilidade e mortalidade materna. A prática ilegal da ivg, aumenta o risco de ameaça da vida das mulheres. São bem conhecidos os dados mundiais sobre o aborto clandestino. Por isso, estão a ser desenvolvidos esforços para reduzir a prática ilegal da ivg por opção das mulheres. Ahistória da legalização da ivg iniciou-se na Rússia em 1920 e prosseguiu na Suécia; Reino Unido; Estados Unidos; e nos principais países considerados desenvolvidos. A restrição da legalização do aborto em países subdesenvolvidos, particularmente no continente africano, em que se cruzam as necessidades de saúde e as tradições socioculturais, faz com que África seja o lugar mais perigoso para uma mulher recorrer à ivg" ["Abortion is one of the most sensitive medical issues from the point of view ethical and moral.
