Abstract
"La participación es un término que ha ganado actualidad, aunque con acepciones desiguales. En ocasiones se usa referido a prácticas que nada tienen que ver con la esencia del concepto, y como consecuencia lo desacreditan o tergiversan. En nuestro país la participación ocupa un nivel estratégico, como parte del enfrentamiento cultural contrahegemónico, y como una vía para evitar la reproducción de relaciones de poder asimétricas en nuestra vida personal y nuestras prácticas políticas, sociales y comunicativas en general. Todo ello reclama la posibilidad de cuestionar y autocuestionarnos constantemente, para descubrir las huellas del autoritarismo y el verticalismo en nuestras maneras de hacer, en nuestras concepciones, y contribuir así a la emergencia de los nuevos cambios. No pretendo agotar aquí cuáles son las potencialidades y límites de la participación; mi intención es compartir algunas reflexiones nacidas desde la experiencia práctica con grupos, individuos y comunidades con los cuales he tenido la suerte de compartir espacios de formación y trabajo comunitario como parte de mi labor en el Programa de Educación Popular y Acompañamiento a Experiencias Locales del Centro Memorial Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." ["Participation is a term that has gained currency, however, with different meanings. Sometimes referred to using practices that have nothing to do with the essence of the concept, and consequently distort or discredit it. In our country the participation occupies a strategic level, as part of the counter culture clash, and as a way to avoid the reproduction of asymmetrical power relations in our personal lives and our political, social and communication in general practice. This calls into question the possibility of constantly autocuestionarnos to discover traces of authoritarianism and verticality in our ways of doing in our conceptions, and thus contribute to the emergence of the new changes. I do not pretend to exhaust here are the potentials and limits of participation are; I intend to share some reflections arising from practical experience with groups, individuals and communities with whom I have been fortunate to share space training and community service as part of my work in Program Popular Education and the Centre for Local Experiences Memorial Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr."]
