Abstract
Drawing from Catholic social tradition, and particularly, from some writings of Pope Benedict XVI, we discuss the essentials of his approach, which can be interpreted as person-centered ethics. This is neither relativist nor rationalistic, but based on metaphysic realism. It is a “first person ethics”, in which personal conscience and virtues play an important role; it leads to the awareness of justice in every phase of economic activity and orients this to the common good. We conclude by affirming that “person-centered ethics” overcomes some shortcomings of conventional approaches which currently we find in the mainstream of business ethics thought.
