Abstract
Hisab-rukyat jurisprudence as a part of descriptions of Islamic knowledge has been developed by the Islamic Higher Education (PTAI). In developing Hisabrukyat jurisprudence, PTAIs faced many problems. First, the declining vitality of Islamic civilization and the emergence of the dichotomy between religion and science, which, in turn, gave birth to a separation between Hisab-rukyat jurisprudence and the science of astronomy. Second, the lack of interest in Hisabrukyat jurisprudence in PTAIs. Third, the lack of Hisab-rukyat jurisprudence literature used as references for lectures of Hisab-rukyat jurisprudence written in Indonesian language. Beginning in 1983, the books of Hisab-rukyat jurisprudence have come to surface to be used in the PTAIs such as UIN Jakarta, UIN Bandung, UIN Yogyakarta, UIN Malang, IAIN Serang Banten and STAIN Jurai Siwo Lampung. The emergence of hisab-rukyat jurisprudence books signifies the increase in literature of and people interested in hisab-rukyat jurisprudence. However, whether the emergence of many Hisab-rukyat jurisprudence literature in PTAIs is also accompanied by a comprehensive material and an empirical approach that does not create an impression of a dichotomy between Hisab-rukyat jurisprudence with science? Of the six Hisab-rukyat jurisprudence literature used in the PTAIs, four books belongs to the category of comprehensive Hisab-rukyat jurisprudence books, those are the books used in UIN Jakarta, UIN Yogyakarta, UIN Malang and STAIN Jurai Siwo Lampung. Whereas the other two are less comprehensive Hisab-rukyat jurisprudence books, those are the books used in UIN Bandung and IAIN Serang Banten. A very empirical approach is used in two books of Hisab-rukyat jurisprudence, those are the books used in UIN Yogyakarta and UIN Malang; the fairly empirical approach can be found in Hisab-rukyat jurisprudence books used in UIN Jakarta, UIN Bandung and STAIN Metro Lampung; while The non-empirical approach can be read in Hisab-rukyat jurisprudence books used in IAIN Banten.
