Abstract
"Agradezco mucho a los compañeros de la Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas esta invitación a una institución que admiro por la calidad y la dedicación revolucionaria de su trabajo. Ella me permite compartir con us- tedes ideas y problemas acerca de un asunto básico para la conciencia política y para la defensa y profundización del rumbo socialista de la revolución: el tema de la identidad y la cultura nacionales. Por ser tan importante, debemos comprenderlo en su complejidad, sin apelar a frases hechas ni a meras abstracciones, ni a simplificaciones como la de una historia de cubanos “buenos” y extranjeros “malos”. Avanzar en esa dirección puede ser muy útil para nuestro trabajo. Por consiguiente, priorizaré el análisis, la presentación de problemas y la expresión de criterios, aun-que me arriesgo a ser demasiado sintético y a simplificar a veces, por razón del tiempo de que disponemos. Cuando me propusieron que hablara de identidad y cul-tura no pregunté si eran la identidad y la cultura nacionales, porque entre cubanos eso está sobrentendido, a no ser que se les ponga otro apellido. Pero las califiqué de “nacionales” en el título, y utilicé el plural para resaltar que se trata sólo de uno de los tipos de identidad y de cultura que existen, y también para aludir a lo específico de cada una de ellas" ["I am grateful to colleagues in the UJC this invitation to an institution admire the quality and dedication of his revolutionary work.
