Abstract
This article discusses the role of fatwa in the political system in Iran. Historically, Shia was recognized as the state religion since Syafawi dynasty. From this era, fatwa became an important part of the political system in Iran in solving religious problems. From Qajar Dynasty until today, fatwa is not just in religious area, but also in political and social life. Iran Revolution in 1979 established the institute of Velayat Faqih which gathered the selected Islamic scholars to give fatwa in every life field in Iran. Velayat Faqih became one of the institutions that differed Islamic nation of Iran from other Islamic nations. The author concludes that Velayat Faqih does not only give fatwa about religion, but also becomes the political policy including as diplomacy instrument in Iran foreign policy.
