"La perplejidad por las tesis de Peter Singer y su ruptura del tabú sobre la eutanasia, dominante desde 1945, ha ido abriendo una reflexión acerca de los motivos que han llevado a abandonar ese tabú. En primer término, tropezamos con la situación demográfica de los países occidentales industrializados. Este estado de cosas históricamente no tiene parangón posible. El desarrollo de la Medicina conduce a que haya cada vez más personas mayores de edad, y al mismo tiempo los medios de comunicación que forman la opinión pública propagan desde hace décadas un estilo de vida según el cual pronto habrá cada vez menos personas jóvenes para poder alimentar a los mayores".
