Abstract
Military in the world of politics is one of the essential elements to achieve a power. Military force is given a facility to hone skills in every battle. At Mataram’s kingdom, the military got the exercise with the aim of seeing the quality and promptness of the soldiers. They got special training held by the empire, such as: watangan, rampongan, and hunting. Thus, the strength and readiness of the soldiers can be seen before the face of war. Watangan and rampongan were Mataram’s traditions held in the beginning of the empire. This study examines the effect of Watangan, and Rampongan held in Mataram kingdom as the military strength.
