Indonesia is the fifth largest democracy in the world. The majority of the population is Muslim and is the world’s Muslims. Viewed from this aspect, Islam has played an important role for the growth of democracy and multiculturalism. This fact reject the view of some Western scientists who claim that Islam is incompatible with democracy. The people of Indonesia have proven to the world that Islam is here to become agents of democracy. However, the road to democracy must continue in order to build a civil society. Civil society will pave the way for the establishment of a democratic and multicultural society, so that the implementation of president election can run smoothly without conflict.
