Abstract
"Suicide is a leading cause of death among young men in Scotland 1. A young death is always one of the most devastating events for a family, and when that death results from suicide the tragedy is all the harder to bear. The General Assembly of 2009 instructed the Church and Society Council to “examine further the issues surrounding suicide in Scotland, especially amongst young men”. Whilst recognising that men make up the largest proportion of young people taking their own lives (the overall male to female ratio is about 3:1, but the excess of male deaths is more pronounced among younger adults), we have also taken into account the views of young women in preparing this report.
