Abstract
Lately, Indonesia is one of the countries in Southeast Asian which is gotten by disaster. They are big wind ‘’putting beliung’’, flood, earthquake, volcano, even the most phenomenal disaster in d’ early 21st century, Tsunami, which destroy not only land of Aceh and places around there but also the victims of it up to 1.000 people. It is the reason the people look for an effort ‚self-awarness‛ and mentality construction, so that they will be ready to face the disasters. One of the traditions and wisdoms that are positive and proportional to face the disasters is ‚Songkabala‛. The tradition has strong root, especially in cultural and weltanschauung of Makassar region. According to the term ‚Sangkabala‛ means to avoid the disaster by using some rituals. The tradition has it own process which is the end of belief of God who is the creator of the world and how importantly human build the harmony with the nature. In the middle of anxious and trauma to the disaster which came together, it is pretty interesting to study the tradition of ‚Songkabala‛ in the community of Binamo, Jeneponto regency. Especially, from perspective of religion anthropology, because of these traditions, we can see the system or sign that flows there to make a conclusion; how the value must be increased, modified, reconstructed, even revitalized from each signification in order to bear one of positive and mental behaviors from the community to face disasters.
